Returning Adult Applicants & Former IUPUI Students

Information for former IUPUI students

We’re always glad to welcome our students back to campus. If you’ve been away from IUPUI for fewer than two semesters (not including summer sessions) or you’re returning from military leave, you don’t need to reapply for admission. Instead, you’ll contact your academic advisor for reactivation.

If you’ve been away for two semesters or more, you’ll go through the admission process outlined here.

When you apply

There are several steps you’ll take to complete your application for admission.

  • Submit your application

    Your first step is to complete IUPUI’s undergraduate admissions application. We strongly recommend that you apply online so we can process your application faster. If you prefer to submit a hard copy of your application, you may request a PDF of the application form by emailing

    If you choose to apply online, you can use your existing IUPUI username and passphrase to log in to the application system. Contact the University Information Technology Services Support Center at 317-274-HELP (4357) or if you don’t remember your username and passphrase. If you’ve never had a username and passphrase, you’ll be able to create a guest computing account for the purposes of completing the application.

    When you fill out the application, there will be a place for you to indicate that you are a returning student. You do not have to pay an application fee.

  • Request transcripts from schools outside the IU system (if applicable)

    If you have attended any colleges or universities outside the IU system since you last attended IUPUI, you must request an official copy of your transcript from each school you attended. This includes:

    • Any college or university at which you were enrolled but did not complete any classes
    • Any dual-credit courses or college courses completed while you were in high school

    Requesting transcripts

    You must contact each school and ask for your official transcript to be sent directly to IUPUI. Transcripts should be mailed to:

    Electronic transcripts

    IUPUI can accept official transcripts that are sent electronically from colleges and universities. However, we do not accept emailed PDFs of transcripts; your transcript must be electronically generated from an official system.

    Electronic transcripts can be sent to If your school will be sending limited-time credentials that allow us to access their system, be sure to make your request during regular business hours.

  • Complete the Prior Conduct Information and Release form (if applicable)

    As part of IUPUI’s commitment to maintaining a safe campus community, you must disclose on your application for admission if you:

    • Have been subject to formal disciplinary action (including, but not limited to, suspension or expulsion) for academic or nonacademic reasons at any high school, postsecondary institution, college, or university.
    • Have been charged or convicted of a crime (or a foreign legal equivalent) that has not been expunged by a court.
    • Have any currently pending criminal charges (or a foreign legal equivalent) against you.
    • Have engaged in any behavior that caused injury to any person(s) or property (including, but not limited to, vandalism or behavior that led to a restraining order against you) that resulted in some form of discipline or intervention.

    You will not automatically be denied admission to IUPUI if you have a previous conviction or disciplinary action, but your application must be reviewed by the Admissions Committee before an admission decision is made. It can take up to four to six weeks for the Admissions Committee to review applicants with disclosures.

After you apply

You can expect to find out whether you’ve been admitted to IUPUI within four to six weeks after we receive all your application materials. While you’re waiting, there are a couple things you can do.

  • Manage your IUPUI computing account

    Approximately two weeks after we receive your application, you’ll get an email with your university ID number. If you don’t have an existing IUPUI computing account, you’ll need your ID number to set up your account. Go to One.IU, search for “create my first IU account,” and select that task, then create your username and passphrase, passphrase reset questions, and email address. Be sure that the email address you create is for IUPUI.

    If you already have an IUPUI computing account (or if you’ve created a computing account for another IU campus), you just need to create your IUPUI email address. Sign in to One.IU with your user name and passphrase and search for “email management.” Select that task and create your IUPUI email address. Be sure to check your IUPUI email account regularly—it’s the way we’ll contact you with important information.

  • Check your application status

    Go to Application Status in One.IU and select “Start.” Log in using your IUPUI username and passphrase to see the status of your application.

  • Update your submitted application

    You can use our application update form to:

    • Reactivate a previously withdrawn application
    • Change your intended major
    • Change your intended start date

    If you need to update your mailing address, phone number, or email address, you can do so in the Student Center in One.IU.

After you’re admitted
