No matter how long it’s been since you were in a college classroom, it’s never too late to go back to school. If you’re thinking of finishing your undergraduate degree at IUPUI, your first step is to apply for admission. And as a Jaguar, you won't be working towards your goals alone — our Degree Completion Office is here to support you from application to graduation.
Review your offer of admission
If you’re admitted to IUPUI, you’ll receive an email that includes important information about your:
- University ID number: You’ll use this number to create your IUPUI computing account and throughout your time at IUPUI.
- School/division: Your school is the academic unit to which you have been admitted. Your school will provide your academic advising.
- Major: Your major is your proposed area of study. Acceptance into a major is selective. If your school is University College, you will complete prerequisite courses in your first two semesters to gain admission into your intended major.
- Residency/tuition: Your residency determines whether you will pay in-state or out-of-state tuition.
- Starting term: Your admission is valid only for the term indicated. To start in a different term, use our application update form to request a change of term.
You will not receive an admission letter via U.S. mail. If there are any errors in your offer of admission, call us at 317-274-4591 to let us know.
Manage your IUPUI computing account
If you don’t have an existing IUPUI computing account, you’ll need your university ID number, found in your admission email, to set up your account. Go to One.IU, search for “create my first IU account,” and select that task, then create your username and passphrase, passphrase reset questions, and email address. Be sure that the email address you create is for IUPUI.
If you already have an IUPUI computing account (or if you’ve created a computing account for another IU campus), you just need to create your IUPUI email address. Sign in to One.IU with your user name and passphrase and search for “email management.” Select that task and create your IUPUI email address. Be sure to check your IUPUI email account regularly—it’s the way we’ll contact you with important information.
After you’ve created your computing account, you can use One.IU to update your personal information, view your financial aid package, and, if applicable, see your Transfer Credit Report.
- After you’ve signed in, set your role to “Student” using the All Roles dropdown menu in the upper right under the searchbox or by selecting Roles in the menu on your mobile device.
- Select the “Student Center” default icon. If the icon doesn’t appear in your default view, type “Student Center” in the search bar.
- Select the task(s) you want to perform.

View your Transfer Credit Report (if applicable)
If you’ve taken courses at any colleges or universities outside the IU system since you last attended IUPUI, you’ll receive a Transfer Credit Report that lists all the courses you’ve taken at other institutions, indicate whether each course will transfer, and note the equivalent course at IUPUI for which you’ll get credit.
To view your Transfer Credit Report, go to One.IU and search for “transfer credits.” Select the “Transfer Credits” app box, then log in using your IUPUI username and passphrase. (If you don’t have an IUPUI computing account, see step #2 of this checklist for instructions on creating one.)

Select your housing and meal plan (if applicable)
You are not required to live on campus, but there are several on-campus housing optionsavailable to you. Because of the volume of housing applications we receive, we encourage you to apply early for housing. On-campus housing is guaranteed if you submit your housing application by March 15.
Meal plans are available to all IUPUI students, regardless of whether they live on or off campus. If you live in Ball Residence Hall, North Hall, or University Tower, you’re required to have a meal plan.
Apply for financial aid
If you’re applying for need-based financial aid, be sure to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as early as October 1 and no later than March 10. Remember to list IUPUI’s school code, 001813, on your application to ensure that your results are sent to IUPUI.
Meet with your academic advisor
As a returning student, you do not need to attend orientation or complete placement exams. Your academic advisor will help you with the process of planning your schedule and registering for classes.
You should also visit the Student Center in One.IU to make sure that you don’t have any financial or academic holds that could prevent you from registering for classes.
