JagStart

JagStart is Indiana University Indianapolis’ signature pitch competition, but at its core, it's a mentorship experience.

Before you ever step on stage, you’ll work with:

  • Student founders who’ve pitched before
  • Recent alumni who’ve built and learned
  • Mentors who help you practice, refine, and improve

You’ll build a pitch deck, practice storytelling, and get feedback in a supportive environment before presenting at the live showcase. Finalists compete for a cash prize and connect with Indianapolis founders and industry leaders. Applications are open now.

All IU Indianapolis students, undergraduate and graduate, are welcome. 

Yes! You can pitch solo or with a team of up to four people.

An elevator pitch is a concise, persuasive 60- to 90-second summary of an idea and why it matters.

Judges evaluate for clarity,  problem-solving, customer insight, and potential for meaningful impact. The focus is on communication and insight, not perfection. 

Absolutely. JagStart is designed for beginners and first-time founders.

Founder in Residence program

The Founder in Residence program connects you with experienced entrepreneurs who provide individualized mentorship and guidance. Mentors work with you one-on-one to help you: 

  • Explore and validate ideas
  • Understand customer needs
  • Think through business models
  • Navigate early-stage challenges

This program is a low-pressure way to get real insight and honest feedback.

Founders Group

The Founders Group is a weekly meeting for student entrepreneurs who want structure, support, and accountability as they grow their ideas. This is a space to:

  • Share wins and challenges
  • Problem-solve with peers
  • Set goals and stay accountable
  • Build confidence by showing up consistently

We currently host three Founders Groups, but all students are welcome regardless of major or experience level. Find a group that fits your schedule:
