Indiana University Institute for Human Health and Wellbeing
Advancing health innovation through strategic investment and cross-sector collaboration
Our best results emerge when diverse perspectives converge. At H2W, we're committed to fostering interdisciplinary collaboration bringing together research experts in health sciences, psychology, social work, and beyond to address complex challenges. It's a transformative approach that improves health outcomes and promotes holistic wellbeing for individuals and communities.
Conceptualized and publicly launched in 2023, H2W is supported by a multi-year, multi-million-dollar investment from IU Research. This sustained commitment provides the infrastructure, faculty alignment, seed funding and partnership development necessary to advance translational health research at scale.
H2W operates under the strategic leadership of Indiana University Research and is a partner of IU LAB — all part of a coordinated, university-wide effort to accelerate high-impact research across Indiana University and the state of Indiana.
Strategic alignment and institutional impact
Aligning with Pillar Two: Transformative Research and Creativity of IU’s 2030 Strategic Plan, H2W is integrating discovery science, clinical research, and community engagement while strengthening IU’s national leadership in improving health outcomes and reducing disparities by translating evidence into measurable impact for communities across Indiana and beyond.
H2W supports:
- The strategic research growth goals of the IU 2030 Strategic Plan.
- Innovation and commercialization pathways through IU LAB.
- Clinical translation and precision health initiatives aligned with the Joint Center of Excellence for Point of Care Precision Medicine.
Through these connections, H2W serves as a key engine for research excellence, partnership development, and measurable societal impact.

A new hub for innovation
Set for completion in Fall 2026, the STEM Lab Building exemplifies the IU 2030 Strategic Plan in action and builds on our strengths as Indianapolis' premier R1 institution. Part of the IU Launch Accelerator for Biosciences (IU LAB), a first-of-its-kind initiative, the facility is positioned at the center of IU's goal to drive innovation in the state. The STEM Lab Building will house the Institute for Human Health and Wellbeing, the Convergent Bioscience and Technology Institute (CBATI), three dozen research lab spaces, and serve as the IU Indianapolis home for interdisciplinary STEM research.
