Guidelines for internships

The IU Indianapolis Career Services Council has developed guidelines that must be followed to recruit and hire students from the campus. Employers are encouraged to pay their interns. If you want to post an unpaid internship, it must meet the guidelines set forth by the Fair Labor Standards Act for internship programs.

When recruiting interns, employers are expected to follow the Principles for Ethical Professional Practice set forth by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) to ensure their recruiting and selection processes are legal and fair. Employers should also ensure compliance with Equal Employment Opportunity laws that are designed to protect both the employer and student interns.

Third-party recruiters are welcome to recruit interns from IU Indianapolis for their clients. Recruiters must disclose the hiring company in the job posting. In addition, you must not charge students for services provided to them during the recruitment and placement process.
